Keemun tea is cultivated in the Anhui province in China. It is a light tea with characteristic stone fruit and slightly smoky notes in the aroma and a gentle, malty, non-astringent taste reminiscent of unsweetened cocoa. Keemun is the most famous of China's black teas, requiring great skill to produce. The delicate leaf provides a rich, brown, lightly scented and almost nutty flavour which is delicious on its own, or with milk for added smoothness. It is believed that Keemun tea was first discovered in 1875 by a government official visiting the area in an attempt to learn more about how to make black tea. Coming from Qimen County, the tea is sometimes referred to as Qimen tea. ‘Keemun’ is the English phonetical translation created from 'Qimen' since the the colonial era.
