MONTHLY SPECIAL - Peru, Noe Quito, El Alto, San Ignacio
Green apple ~ Demerara ~ camomile
Every month, our resident Q Grader and third-generation Wogan, James, searches the world to find a coffee that is ‘weird and wonderful’, and truly excites. A micro-lot, a great back-story, an impressive cooperative, or a particularly unusual taste; once it's gone, it's gone.
We keep the prices of these extraordinary coffees down, so that you have the chance to try something that you might not be able to get your hands on otherwise.
Experience the heights of Cajamarca.
Hailing from the lush San Ignacio region of Peru, this lot from producer Noé Quito Lazo is a testament to generational expertise and high-altitude precision. Grown between 1,700 and 1,900 MASL on his farm, El Alto, this coffee benefits from a unique microclimate created by the neighbouring Regional Conservation Area.
Noé’s commitment to quality is evident in his processing. By utilizing a 48-hour washed process with a pre-fermentation stage, he has unlocked a profile that is both classic and complex, highlighting the inherent sweetness of the Bourbon variety.
The Flavour Profile
This is a sophisticated, comforting cup characterised by deep sweetness and bright fruit notes.
Behind the Bean
Noé Quito Lazo is more than just a farmer; he is a steward of the land. His farm, El Alto, sits adjacent to preserved ecosystems where native species like the romerillo tree thrive. This proximity to the forest not only protects local biodiversity but also creates the ideal temperature and moisture conditions for slow cherry maturation.
By blending traditional family practices with modern agronomic improvements, Noé focuses on "quality over quantity." Every bean is dried using careful, traditional methods to ensure moisture loss is controlled, preserving the physical integrity and sensory brilliance of the coffee from the farm to your cup.
Why Wogan?
Sustainable and ethical
We've made it this generation's mission to put sustainability at the forefront. We’ve pledged to be Carbon Neutral by 2030 and are well on our way to getting there. LDPE4 recyclable bags, a Roastery powered entirely by solar energy, and a hell of a lot more.
our story
We, at Wogan Coffee, have been lovingly hand-roasting speciality, ethical, sustainable and traceable coffees since 1970. In our third generation, and a wholly independent family company, you can find us rooted in Bristol; the same city as when Mr Wogan established the business over fifty years ago. Laura and James, grandchildren of the bowler hatted gentleman, now have the ropes firmly in their grasp; James as our resident Q Grader in the Bristol Roastery Headquarters, and Laura in London.
