The farm
Due west of Addis Ababa is the market town of Nekemte, and home to the primary co-operatives that supply Oromia Coffee Farmers Co-operative Union (OCFCU, a secondary co-operative). Depending on the language used, coffee here is known as Lekempti (amarhic) or Nekemte/Neqemte (Oromo).
Primary cooperatives are formed of the coffee growing members that pick and produce their own beans. A secondary co-operative is formed of primary members, and provides services such as export, financial support and training.
OCFCU have been increasing the use of innovative technology to streamline operations, increasing transparency and improving market access for all of their 560,000 individual farmer members.
OCFCU promotes Fair-trade for socially and environmentally sustainable techniques and long- term relationships between producers, traders, and consumers. It also aims to help small-scale coffee farmers to take advantage of the Fairtrade coffee market. A total of 63 primary cooperatives with 52,442 (46,143 male and 6,299 female) farmers are Fairtrade certified and selling their coffee under Fairtrade terms. 43 are both Fairtrade and Organic certified, including those contributing to this coffee.

Why Wogan?
Sustainable and ethical
We've made it this generation's mission to put sustainability at the forefront. We’ve pledged to be Carbon Neutral by 2030 and are well on our way to getting there. LDPE4 recyclable bags, a Roastery powered entirely by solar energy, and a hell of a lot more.
our story
We, at Wogan Coffee, have been lovingly hand-roasting speciality, ethical, sustainable and traceable coffees since 1970. In our third generation, and a wholly independent family company, you can find us rooted in Bristol; the same city as when Mr Wogan established the business over fifty years ago. Laura and James, grandchildren of the bowler hatted gentleman, now have the ropes firmly in their grasp; James as our resident Q Grader in the Bristol Roastery Headquarters, and Laura in London.
